PlayStation 3 will be fully compatible with new technology, says electronics giant's boss Stringer
Sony has predicted that 3D TV will be ‘in every home’ by the end of 2010 – and that PlayStation 3 will become a key driver in for the technology.Speaking at the at IFA technology trade show in Berlin, the electronics giant revealed that PS3 would be fully compatible with a range of 3D TVs it plans to roll out next year.
Industry insiders have told MCV that Sony has already overseen the internal development of 3D games – but are holding off from announcing them until an industry 3D standard has become apparent.
The Telegraph reports that Sir Howard Stringer, Sony’s chief executive (pictured), said 3D technology would be offered across the majority of its products.
He gave no indication of price – but analysts expect early 3D TVs to cost several thousand pounds.
"Today, 3D is clearly on its way to the mass market,” Mr Stringer was expected to tell a press conference, reports the paper.
"As with high definition a few years back, there are a variety of issues yet to be addressed.
“But the 3D train is on the track, and we at Sony are ready to drive it home."
It follows similar announcements earlier this year from other television manufacturers, including LG and Phillips.
British Sky Broadcasting has announced plans to launch its first 3D channel next year.
