PES 2010 Off!!

I was pleased to hear that my playtest was generally well received.  I’d like to apologise to everyone who was looking for Editing information.  An oversight on my part, but purely unintentional.  I was concentrating on core gameplay, but hopefully I will get the opportunity to redeem myself, or to just get some general info from Konami on Editing functionality - whichever is easier.

So overall I think we’re going to be quite pleased with PES2010 on release.  The only real question mark against the game at the moment is the online play.  Konami are very aware of the importance that the online system should be perfect for everyone, so I don’t believe they will overlook it.  I’m hoping we have some positive news to report about the online game shortly, but until then, we’re all in the dark.

I’ve already mentioned that I expect to hopefully get one more playtest in before the final version is released, but in case I don’t, I shall try to get answers to questions that have remained unanswered.

Which leads me nicle to the main section of the week’s column - your questions left as comments to my playtest.

Here are some more answers to questions which were asked:

Any different menu music?

different yes, but usual generic kind of stuff - nothing amazing or famous

Base copy?

Sorry - don’t know - will make a note to check next time!

Free kicks

yes i believe they’ve been improved.  shooting generally is a lot tighter, so free kicks are too.

Camera angles

usual camera angles - no additions there - sorry - very unlikely to be added at this stage.

Fighting for long ball

Sorry I don’t remember properly - I was trying to tussle for balls wherever possible, but don’t recall how it worked.  It certainly wasn’t poor - i’d have noted that.

Player stats

Sorry - I didn’t really bother to take note of them - you could ask T.J who leaves comments regularly - he’s a bit of a stats freak!  T.J - please don’t post any more stats in the comments section!

Applying for manager jobs

Sorry - I didn’t delve into Master League enough to know that.
I don’t think it’s there as an option, so don’t get your hopes up for that.
You’re better off imagining it, and starting with a new team yourself!  B-)

Team Stats

I didn’t check individual team stats, so don’t know if Arsenal or any other team are underrated

Ref Decisions

Refs decisions vary during play.  Some fouls are immediately called, otherwise play does continue.

Directing through balls on left or right foot

Didn’t try it, but i should imagine it is possible depending on which side the ball is when
the pass is attempted - but i’m guessing really.

Throw ins

I fully expect the barriers to be gone in the final version, and players having to tussle for the ball.

Crowds

They looked better from a distance, but didn’t notice them going crazy when goals are scored.
You don’t really see the crowds all that much during play generally.

Face cam

Again not sure how good it will be this year.  I can keen to try it properly myself, and will report back
on it if i get the chance to try it before the final build.

Stunned players during free kicks

Yes players don’t stand around wondering if they left the gas running at home, and are responsive
all the time!

Team generation from 4 teams

Sorry not sure if that is in there - I agree it was a great feature, so finger’s crossed it is in!

Forechecking pressure to tackle opponent’s defenders

I know exactly what you mean, but unfortunately I didn’t try it.
I am very confident that this will not be an issue though.

Online system

Will be built on technology primarily based on PES6, so fingers crossed it is perfect!

Changing the pace of the game

Sorry there isn’t an option to slow/speed up the game.
But the use of your own sliders will help there, if you have players making overlapping runs, as opposed to rigid structures that are fairly static.

Kicking of the ball sound

Sorry I didn’t pay enough attention to it.  I hope you aren’t dissappointed with the ball kicking sound!

Camera angles

You can’t change them from 1 to 9 as far as i could see.
I didn’t try various weather conditions but generally they don’t tend to make much difference to play.

That’s your lot for now folks.  One final note I’d like to add is about the flak Francis has had over his playtest period.  I’d like to remind you guys that we are all working on this site in an unpaid capacity.

Francis was a late replacement for Dan on the playtest, and kindly stepped in to accompany me.

I resent the fact that he was getting grief for only attending the playtest for an hour.  We’re a team, and between us we covered the event, and that’s all there is to it.  We don’t deserve any grief for the work we do on this site, and I hope we don’t get a repeat of anything like that towards any of us.

I will say this once more too - if people are leaving offensive comments, then their comments will be removed, even if they contain a valid point.
